Animatic showing
The first time the 2nd years and the rest of the crew see the animatic for the first time. We asked them a few questions about the clarity of the story and we got feedback on what to change. They mentioned that we need to colour the characters to make the audience understand better who is who. which is why I have spent a few days colouring the animatic as this is the same feedback as we got from the lectures. It would also help to colour the towels so that it doesn't get los

Music scratch track
Music consultation, starting to think about how the music is going to compliment and drive the animation. A few drum test and other instruments to see what would work together. The storyboard and a rough animatic has to be finalized before the music is composed as the beats and timing has to have been worked out first. And after a rough sound the animation will be added and animated to the music beats. Me and the musician spent the evening banging on different pots, pans, bin

Crew meeting
Today we had our second meeting with the crew. It went very well and most of them had done test animation, which we went through and gave them feedback on. There were loads of different movements and scenarios in the animations, which will count towards our 30 second of test animations. I am very pleased to see that they have used the naming conventions and correct folders as I specified in the animation checklist/guide. We talked about the small changes in the design that w

Live action references
In the evening Prawta and I had booked a Kung Fu lesson. We went over to the sports center at 8. pm with a camera and tripod. The Kung Fu society were very helpful and did not mind us filming their first lesson of the year. We filmed for about 2 hours, to get a good variation of angles and moves. The first 1 hour, were just warm up with and sparring, which wasn't really what we were looking for. Until the last 1 hour or so, where they started doing the “standard” Kung Fu move

First crew meeting
Our first meeting with the entire crew today at 1.30. We chose to change the location of the meeting as we needed to go through the Google drive and visuals of the film. We started the meeting by introducing ourselves and making sure we had all the contact details of everyone. We then got the characters and color palettes up on the big screen for all of the crew to see and understand what we were explaining. (One of the 2nd years were not happy about our designs and asked for

Concept art
As the group I am currently working on has no one who can draw, I offered to have a go at trying it out. It is not close to perfect, but I learned a lot from trying it out. I learned new techniques and how to better practice painting. I had a few friends help me as well by teaching me their own technique. Even if they are not perfect I am really happy with them for being the first time I properly tried concept art and digitally paint.

Production moving forwards
We got boards and a wall to put all of our production papers on. Printing out everything to fill up our corner. Story beats, concept art and pipeline have been pinned up to give an overview of the story. And it will help with either cutting stuff or put new things into the story. It really helped us out with seeing the story in a different perspective. We did cut and rearrange the story line. More will be added to the wall and board as we get further into the production. The

Re-animated
For my 3rd year I will not just be producing I will be working on a VFX heavy film from the course. I want to do this on top of my producer job as this is the industry I want to be working in. Ben Harland the director has a clear vision of what his film will be looking like and the high standard of the work that is required is a challenge I want to face. I will be taking on the role as compositor and help as a part of the camera crew. This is the crew I will be working with.

Putting together a crew
This last week I have been trying to put together a crew for our film Towel Territory. I started by creating a Facebook post on the course page to get their attention and listing the jobs we need filled. A few of the 2nd years have gotten in contact and very eager to work on our film. They’ve been very helpful and specific on what they would like to do with in the production. I have chosen to use Facebook as our main source of communication as that is the easiest way to cont

Producer
I have decided to produce the film "Towel Territory", which is a short 2D experimental animation that explores the concept of territory on a beach. I have never produced anything in the last 3 years on the course, but I thought I should give it a go as I have always been good at leading a team and making the though decisions. At the pitches I really loved the way my director Prawta Annez presented her Idea and the art work. I am looking forward to be working with her on this
