New job title on Re-animated
Most of the day went to researching Arnold for Maya as I’ve been tasked to do lighting for the 3D scenes. The tutorial on Pluralsight was very helpful and I found some more interesting settings that might be useful for our VFX project. I will talk to one of our lecturers about this and hopefully it will improve the quality and flow of the film. As I have now been tasked with a new role in the filming of Re-animated; DIT (digital imaging technician). The director decided this

Technical problems
Technical issues with the opacity in the Photoshop templates. For some reason all the layers turned down the opacity, which made us think all of the work was gone. After googleing and looking for a solution I found the problem and fixed it. This is not the only problem we have encountered with the templates. We need to colour on 2s, which mean we only colour 1 frame and copy it on to the next frame. The copy-paste in the Photoshop template and file stopped working and would n

Overview of the crew
Today I spent the day creating a better overview over what and who’s doing what. The first one I created turned out to be more messy than I realised. In the new one I created it’s easy to see which scenes have been finished and who did it. We are going to be printing this one out as soon as the animatic has been locked down. We will print it in A3 and pin it to the wall, where we manually colour in and write what shots has been done. By using this overview it made it very mes

Filming the animatic and test shots
Today we spent the whole day in the TV-studio filming the animatic and shots for testing. We used the BlackMagic camera and loads of light and tried different angle for each scene and shot. Here we are filming the last scene of the film. As it is only for an animatic and to figure out all the angles, lights and all the problems we might encounter, the set is not been built yet. Here our director is adjusting the camera whilst explain the scene to our actor Fletcher. During ou

Templates
To improve the efficiency and to make sure all the shots have been set up with the right size and frame rate. I have been creating TV-Paint template for every single shot and put it on our Z-drive (could drive on the University, which all the crew members have access to) . Within the template I add the animatic for the animator to have a sense of the timing we are looking for. It will also help them with understanding the environment that the character will be moving around i

Test shoots
This week we spent a full day filming test shots for Re-animated. Testing out if blue or green screen is the best choice for filming the body parts. We needed to know if the green glow will be done in post or on set. If we are setting up the green light in the studio we will be needing to use a blue screen. As the green light spill into the green screen and would make it difficult to extract it late down the pipeline. We also looked at the lighting and how to light the scene

First day we start animating
Today was the day of our weekly meetings in which the plan was to hand out the first shots to be animated. We went through thoroughly how we want them to animate, where to find the template, naming conventions etc. This is me explaining how I want all the work done, the crew is amazing and listened carefully.

Shotlists and trackers
Today the day have gone to finishing the shot-list and tracker, to easily show the animators which shot the have been assigned to do. I have done a very rough estimate of how long it will take us to finish animating all the shots. I prioritized each shot and by then said, 7 days for a hard shot, 5 days for a medium and 3 days for a easy shot. (days pr. key frames, inbetweens and colour/cleanup) in total that would be 783 days to complete, but divided by 11 animator (which is

Scheduling
The last few weeks I have been working on getting all the scheduling done and making the gantt charts to make sure we stay on track. I researched how to schedule an animation with a 1 ear time frame and looked at how other producer has dealt with this previously. The 3rd years last year was extremely nice and helpful when they let me look at how they managed their project. They were nice enough to give me some do and don'ts. another source of information that was helpful was

Milestone
The first milestone of the term. The animatic showing in the cinema. We showed our animatic and the test animations we had the 2nd years do for us. The feedback was; That the fight scene needs work, which we will have sorted out as soon as the dancers have choreographed it (next week). It will also help once we have motion captured it. They thought the characters needs to be more distinct from each other. We told them about the new faces that’s currently being re-designed. Wh
